Public Space and Intercultural Dialogue, Riga, Latvia, November 25th, 26th, 2010

SCULPTURE QUADRENNIAL RIGA 2012 will continue previous essential themes – society and contemporary art, art in public space, accessibility of art, etc. In order to raise the awareness of art professionals and culture managers on these issues, several activities already in 2010 are designed to be professionally necessary and essential. One of them is the International Seminar “Public Space and Intercultural Dialogue”:

Programme:

  • 25.11.2010, LatvianArt Academy – Lecture by the art critic and curator Raimar Stange (Germany) “Shrinking public spaces and the consequences for art in public” followed by discussion for art students has servedas a strong base for the development of public art’s theoretical discourse.
  • 26.11.2010, Goethe Institute RigaPublic Space and Intercultural Dialogue. The professional and theoretical discourse in roundtable discussion will directly help to achieve the aim of cross-cultural experience exchangein the future. The result of discussion will be European scale expertise and the establishment of the international board of SCULPTURE QUADRENNIAL RIGA.

The main aim of the seminar is to start discussion and explore, what is the relation between contemporary art, public space and society, what is the role and influence of art and culture to social and circumambient environment in general. Does and how develops the interaction between art, artists and members of society in concrete environment and in public space generally?
